Devil's food cupcakes are done--as is a 6 inch round cake that has two layers and way too much frosting unless sugar is your thing. I made 12 cupcakes and decided to use the rest of the batter to make a little cake. I bought the little cake pan a couple of weeks ago so thought I'd give it a try. I think it looks good--B said I need more practice frosting a cake. Now granted, his cake really does look perfect, but I'll leave it up to your imagination what I told him he could do with his opinion. I'm going to put some drop flowers on the cake-- we're learning how to do them tomorrow. My cake won't have as many flowers as the picture here-- but you get the idea.
Tomorrow in class we're making little clowns out of frosting--with clown heads you plop in the top (you buy the heads separately). The first day of class the instructor actually asked if anyone was afraid of clowns, and if they were, she'd teach them something else. I'm not afraid of them, but these little clown heads look kind of creepy.
Tonight we were in DQ and while we were waiting for our order we looked at the ice cream cakes and the decorating on them. That has such a different frame of reference for us now-- we know how to do this, we'll learn how to do that. It's kind of fun, actually. We'll probably need to wait until October to take class 2--there are two conflicts on Sundays in September. I wouldn't mind taking a class during the week, but I suppose it is a little easier on the weekend.
First day of school is on Tuesday-- condolence cards are welcome.
