One of the things I am not enjoying about the cake decorating is the prep work. Bake a cake a week, frost it, make at least one batch of decorator icing, and all the dirty dishes that go along with it. Make the cake, wash the bowl, the beaters, the measuring cup and spoons. Make the decorator icing, wash the same bowl, measuring cup and spoons. The past three weekends B and I have done this together, but we both had things to do today so we're doing it sans the other.
I just put my cake in the oven (golden vanilla, and I added almond flavoring just because) and right as I was getting ready to slide the pans into the oven, I realized I had greased the pans but hadn't floured them. I didn't want to risk ruining the cakes coming out of the pans, so had to dump all the batter into a bowl, wash the cake pans, grease and flour them and pop them in the oven. Again, the washing!
I did get my first cake commission this morning. I was at the A (city I live in) Historical Society breakfast and was told they were having a cake walk at the Festival in a couple of weeks and was asked to make two cakes. Shouldn't be a challenge, but I'm not sure I want to get into that business, really. This is a favor. For now.
