Just got back from the gym and am enjoying an iced non-fat chai (made my own--so much cheaper). Am getting ready to head to the shower and get the day going.
Yesterday morning was spent reading grants written by people hoping to get $ for literacy projects at their schools. This is my last year as chairperson of this state committee and I'm looking forward to being done. I don't mind the work so much, what really sends me over the edge are reading these poorly written grants by TEACHERS, for gosh sakes. One of the requirements is to write objectives for the project they hope to do. I cannot tell you how many (a LOT) write things like: "To expose students to quality literature". What the hell does that mean? Are you going to wear a raincoat and whip open the front to expose a copy of Wizard of Oz? Another section asks applicants to describe how they are expected to grow professionally as a result of this project they want to do. Again, the majority of them write things like "I want my students to learn to work cooperatively". This isn't professional growth, people. After ten years of reading this crap, I'm ready to be done.
Last night we watched "In Her Shoes"-- one of the best movies I've ever seen. I loved the book, I love the author's personal blog (link over there--------->) and I loved the movie. I hated CD's character all the way through the movie--what a selfish person. Even at the end I had a little bit of a hard time being convinced she became what she did, but I suppose that's intentional. Great movie-- go get it now. I'll wait. Go on-- I don't have all day.
