Last night was performance #2-- the cast did a great job again. The tradition for Saturday night performances is that pretty much the whole cast/crew goes to Benn-i-gan's after the show. And as is typical for this group of people, no one ever thinks to call ahead and let them know that nearly 50 people are about to descend upon their restaurant. We had ONE server for the whole group--the poor guy. He did a great job--we got our food and drinks pretty fast, and he did keep checking back pretty regularly. And as is also typical for a large group like that, we were $40 short on the bill. If each person shorted only 1.00, it made a huge difference. About three-quarters of the group had left, and there we were, stuck with a reasonably large deficit. Bfg went to get more $$ out and I said, "No way! We paid more than enough". That's why I always like to get my own check, and if I can't do that then I am never the one who collects all the money. I don't know who ended up taking care of it, but it wasn't me.
No performances until next Sunday--but I think there is a pick-up rehearsal scheduled for Wed or Th of this week since we have such a long break.
There is a song at the beginning of the second act where one of the gondoliers (who may or may not be the king) is doing all kinds of work around the castle (or wherever--I don't know that it's really a castle). He's dusting, knighting a man, meeting visitors from another country, signing important documents, etc... The idea is that there's lots of work to do, even for a king. At pretty regular intervals various cast members come off stage and either pick up or drop off props. I stand in the wings and either deliver or take their props. It moves pretty fast and I need to pay attention to what's going on. Last night I wasn't really paying attention to when all that started and was drinking water from my water bottle when they started coming off stage and giving me their props. I was trying to put the cap on my water bottle and get someone to grab it so I could take the props--but I wasn't getting that message across very successfully. It wasn't pretty-- but it was pretty funny.
And we didn't forget the step last night! :-)
