I've been busier this year on the three days I stay later than the teachers than any of the other seven years I've been a librarian. I'm trying to clean out all kinds of files, discard crap no one ever uses, etc... I suppose it's because I know I'm not going to be there too many more years, and I don't want a new person to come into that mess.
I have two phones in the library--one in my office (never used by anyone really) and one out on the counter. I wanted to get the one in my office moved to the back room where my aide works-- 1)So she could answer it when it rings and 2)So others could use it more easily. The cost to move the stupid phone is $60-- don't ask me what that pays for. Some kind of extension reassignment or something ridiculous. I asked the principal if he'd pay for it, and after a lot of his hemming and hawing I could tell he wasn't wanting to. He finally said he'd pay for half. While I wasn't surprised, I was completely disappointed that I would have to pay out of my budget to move a damn phone to a new location. I told him I would, but after some thought I called the secretary and told her I'd changed my mind. I'll just wait til the new P comes, and see what he says.
I mean come ON-- it's a phone. It's not even anything for the library.
Something I noticed today--- the secretaries have already changed the name on the principal's mailbox to the new person. He doesn't even start at the school til end of July. I know if it was me that was leaving and they did that while I was still there, it would certainly make me feel pushed to the side.
