Busy few days--now a lazy Sunday. For awhile, anyway.
On Thursday Funny Laurie, RR and I spent the day scrapbooking. It was fun, fun, fun. Personally, I didn't get much done.... but FL and I laughed a lot. It's like we're our own little comedy show when we're together. I'm sure as soon as RR gets to know FL better, she'll chime right in because RR is just as funny. Sometimes funnier. At the next table were a couple of kids that used to go to my school-- now getting ready to start high school. I'm sure they were thrilled to have their former teachers there next to them.
Thursday night was Girl's Night Out at the Theatre. We went to see Full Monty at the ACenter. It was fun, and I think everyone enjoyed the show.
Friday bfg took the day off and we bummed around for most of it. Fri night we watched Prime-- it was a cute movie, not spectacular but cute.
Yesterday we bummed around for a bit more then both crashed in the afternoon. Naps for everyone! Last night we drove up to Boulder to see if there were any tickets left for a show called Hot Mikado. Bfg had seen a flyer for it when he went to his voice lesson last week. No tickets left, but there was a woman with extras so we did get tickets. Hot Mikado is a parody of Gilbert & Sullivan's The Mikado-- same story and songs, but set in the 1940's with big band and jazz music. The tunes were actually the same, just changed a bit to fit the big band sound. If you know the song "Three Little Maids (from school are we...)"--now imagine it sung by the Andrews Sisters.
It was a cute production-- I'm glad we went, but I don't think bfg knew one important piece of info when he suggested it. It was all performed by teenagers. Which means the audience was full of their teenaged friends. Ones that whooped and whistled and talked to each other during the performance. There were actually two casts, and since last night was the last performance, the other cast was in the audience watching. They were whooping and hollering the worst. Aside from all that, it was a clever idea. The parody has actually been around since 1939--so it's not something this director just came up with. After it was over I told bfg I'd like to see it done by adults. I loved the concept, and the costumes (zoot suits, snoods, etc....) but the kids aren't the best singers yet. Some of the leads were good, but a little off-key.
Tonight I'm ushering--shouldn't be a long night though, since the performance is the senior drama camp production. Those don't usually go on as long as a regular production.
And there you go.
