While we didn't go to THE restaurant for lunch on Sunday because the birthday girl is really sick, it was a decent weekend. It was a weekend, so that was enough. One more day of work tomorrow, then a few days off.

I'm sure most of you reading this (all three of you) have something in your lives that you'd like to change. Working out, eating healthier, being more organized, whatever. So when you actually buckle down and do it, how do you do it? I've done it before, and can do it again, but can't really get going on anything I want to do. Convenience seems to be easier than commitment. I'm reaching the point of critical mass, however. And I do mean that literally.

Frankly, not much help to be had from this corner. I found that PAYING to lose weight was at least helpful, but by no means a guarantee. Here are my thoughts on it, verbatim from a New Year's blog post:
My greatest accomplishments have never been related to New Year's Resolutions. In fact, my fitness accomplishments, career advancement, job transfer and professional education advances all took place in a sort of possession. Sometimes it was calm and deliberate. Sometimes it was manic. Sometimes it was impulsive. But it wasn't consciously planned, and written down like the self-help gurus recommend.

Mind you, becoming a parent required a ton of advance planning and maneuvering and decision-making and class-taking. But I don't think adoption ever showed up on a list of New Year's Resolutions.

And the New Year's Resolutions that people seem to write are notoriously unattained and short-lived.

So, should I write anything down that means anything to me? Or would that doom it from the start?
