And so it begins.

This afternoon I got an email from a library teacher at another school thinking about applying for my job, and with a list of questions. This is exactly what I was hoping to avoid for awhile-- it makes me so melancholy. I specifically hadn't let the other librarians know yet for this very reason. My job can't even be advertised for a little while and I was really hoping to not have to do this until absolutely necessary.

It's going to be a really tough spring, I think.

It's funny, I know you so I know this to not be true but to someone on the outside reading your blog it would appear that most of the time you don't like your job. Now you get to move on to something else and almost hand pick your successor, and that makes you unhappy too.

Yo0u retiring is a GOOD thing..trust me.

I have already had 2 phone calls also re: your job. Word travels fast!! It is a coveted position, that is for sure! I ran into someone at the grocery store as well and they had already heard.

I've taught for 32 years. How I think of my job at certain times of the year isn't as relevant as the fact that I've been doing it for this long. And at this point, it doesn't feel like 'moving on to something else". It feels like "not doing anything important anymore".

My advice to you is-
Type up and save a response:

Dear Vulture- (did I say that out loud?)
I'm not dead yet. In answer to your questions: I don't know when it will be posted; the building leadership has been in flux for the last several years; etc., etc.

Sincerely,
Cindi
Send the exact same response to all.
