Feels like it should be Friday.We had an early release day today--kids left at 1:00, we had an inservice til 3:30. The crazy part of the day-- all the parents picking up their kids at 1:00. There were four of us directing traffic and the kids waiting for rides. It looks like a mess out there every day before and after school, but in reality it's very organized if the drivers would just pay attention to what we're telling them to do and where to pull up.
The nice thing about today actually being Thursday? Tomorrow IS Friday.

I'm on the other side of the coin, as the parent doing the pickup. I always sit there and fume that things would go so much more smoothly if the teachers would do what they're supposed to do.
By the same token, most of the parents are dummies that act like this is the first time they've ever done this. Irritating.
Of course *I* am the only one doing it right.
Traffic, pick-up, drop-off. It never seems to matter how many bulletins or meetings you have. It never seems to matter how many signs you post or orange cones you place. The only thing that works is periodic visits and ticketing by the PAR officer. Two of our parents (moms) actually got into a physical fight a few years ago. Thank god Danelle knows better...

My biggest frustration being a teacher out there is the attitude I get from parents when I am just trying to do my job. Imagine the "attitude" they would be giving us if we didn't take the safety of their children seriously!
My second biggest frustration is staff that do not show up for their duty or make sure it is covered when they are out of the building. I was BY MYSELF on Friday trying to manage the traffic, the kids, and the crosswalk at the same time. Not fun. When we are out there in bright orange vests it makes it easier for parents and students to see us but it also makes it glaringly obvious when we are NOT out there to do our jobs! UGH!
When I'm out for duty, and the other epople aren't, I always go in and tell the office to call them.
Next time I'll come and help you on a Friday when you're out there. Maybe we should should just tell M2we'll always do it, and if he's at school he can come out.
