Today was the first day of school for my school district--and many others, I'm sure. Since one of the kindergarten teachers and I are doing a special book with her class this year, I headed to school to take photos of all of them so we had a First Day of School Picture. Whew... I am happy I got to go home when I was done. She has 17 boys and 8 girls, and the boys are BOYS. It took her forever to read a story to the class-- after each page she had to refocus them and get their attention. I talked to her on the phone for a long time tonight and while she didn't sound as exhausted as I would have, she's got a long week ahead of her!

It felt kind of odd to be in the school today-- I haven't been there on the first day of school in either of the two years since I retired. I love the first day of school-- such an energy to the day. But I felt like an outsider today, which in reality I suppose I am, but today was the first day I really felt like it. The staff all had on baseball jerseys given to them by the principal, an effort to create a team feeling, I'm sure. Feeling a part of a team is always a good thing.

On the other hand, I got to leave at noon!
