Tonight I was coming home from dinner with B and I was about 4 blocks from where I live. I'm at a stop light and the car next to me starts honking like crazy--I look over and the driver is saying something really loud and gestures for me to roll my window down. He says "Is your last name B-----?" I recognized him as a kid I had in class a long time ago and he says "You were my 5th and 6th grade teacher!" I told him I did recognize him and asked him to tell me his name. As soon as he said it I knew his last name, too. The light was still red, and he asked me, "So I heard you went to a library job? Are you still doing that?" We chatted for a quick minute then the light turned green and we went on our way.

I love that.

Craziness! Still, I don't think if I saw Mr Revielle (5th grade) or Mrs. Simmons (6th grade) in a car next me I would make such a scene. Kids just remember you in a different way than most teachers I think. And that's a good thing.

That is a really good thing! I can't think of a single teacher that I cared enough about to say hi to now, let alone go out of my way to get their attention. I would probably run the other direction from most of them. I hope my students are like that with me someday.

I mean, I hope my students are like those kids were with you. Not, I hope my students run the other direction when they see me coming. :) That just read kind of funny, huh?
